Fall Prevention

Have you ever experienced an accidental fall?

Statistics show that 30% of people over 65 experience an accidental fall at least once a year. The Breisgau Klinik offers a targeted therapeutic prevention program for self-pay patients to reduce the risk of accidental falls. The main component of this program is a coordinated strength and balance training. While, it targets individually oriented activities, it also includes lectures and relaxing treatments such as Fango wraps.

An important component of the program is learning effective exercises that can be done at home. Continuing exercise is important to further stabilize the progress gained during the stay in the clinic.

Important information about Fall Prevention

Fall prevention is an important issue for seniors The data is clear: 30% of all people over 65 fall at least once a year; among those over 80 the rate with 50% is even higher. Reasons for this are less ice and banana peels, but rather a lack of balance and weak leg muscles that causes the elderly to experience accidental falls.

The danger to accidentally fall increases with age. Mostly the affected person suffers only slight bruises, but falls can also cause hip fractures or similar injuries. This leads to hospitalization with surgery and subsequent rehabilitation. But even if the consequences after accidental falls are not serious, elderly often change their behavior by being more cautious, move less and remain more often seated. The fear of experiencing an accidental fall, prompts many elderly people to use as cane or walker. Since this behavior leads to a weakening of the muscle functions, it affects the balance and leg strength. The risk of experiencing an accidental fall increases.

What can you do?

It is important not to just rely only on walking aids such as cane and walker. Fall prevention means to train your balance ability and leg strength, thereby increasing the ability to walk safe. A person, who cannot stand a few seconds safely on one leg, shows already an increased risk of falling due to a bad balance and should start exercising. Balance and strength training for the legs is of course subject in any rehabilitation, but it can also be performed on an outpatient basis in physiotherapy practices or as a part of a self-pay, preventive health week in the Breisgau Klinik.

Courses Preventive Program

As a provider of healthcare services for more than 20 years, the Breisgau Klinik in Bad Krozingen stands for competence in medicine. Building on the founded knowledge and experience of a spa and rehabilitation clinic, the Breisgau Klinik offers a range of differentiated services. As physiotherapy practice and outpatient therapy center, we are aware of our responsibility for the health of the regional population. In addition, we offer

prevention courses in the fields of aqua fitness, relaxation and nutrition therapy as well as strength training for the spine and fall prevention.

Highly qualified medical and therapeutic personnel ensure the regeneration and healing success. The courses are supervised by competent physiotherapists and qualified sports teachers with appropriate additional qualification in the respective areas of preventive treatment. The competence and professionalism of our therapists was reviewed and approved by the national health insurance. This is why in addition to the assurance of tested quality, a further incentive to become active regarding your own health is the financial support provided by most public health insurance companies paying up to 80% of the course fees. As a special "reward" for your own prevention initiative, participation in one of the bonus programs offered by the statutory health insurance is also possible.

Outpatient preventive treatment benefits supplemented by the health insurance carrier!!

Outpatient preventive treatment benefits (also "open or outpatient spa treatment") offer the possibility to make use of the wide range of treatment options in the Breisgau Klinik. A great part of the cost is assumed by your health insurance! Your outpatient prevention treatment is available on request. You can file the application together with your doctor and submit it to your insurance company. After approval, your health insurance usually takes over the entire medical expenses and the cost as prescribed by the spa physician for medications or therapies. There is, however, a statutory co-payment. In addition, other costs (accommodation, meals, taxes, travel expenses) are usually supplemented. Our services include full-board accommodation, including the use of an in-house swimming pool and sauna, as well as all the leisure activities. The cost of medical care and therapeutic applications will be paid by your health insurance once it has provided you with a treatment guarantee.
