Therapeutic Services

The primary focus of every therapy concept is always on the patient. Grouped around him are highly qualified teams of specialists (orthopedic and trauma surgery, rheumatology, internal medicine / gastroenterology / oncology, sports medicine, social medicine, physical and rehabilitative medicine, and nutritional medicine), physiotherapists, masseurs, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, health educators, and last but not least nutritionists. We adjust the treatment program individually to your health needs. With you in the team, the therapy will lead to success!

24 hours Medical Care

Medical care is ensured around the clock by a central medical attendance service. All patients undergo an in-depth initial examination with a comprehensive anamnesis (medical history) at the day of their admission to the clinic. Following, the goal of the therapeutic measures for rehabilitation are discussed and decided upon together with the patient.

Patient visits by the responsible physicians are conducted weekly in all departments. For patients who have undergone surgery, there will be an additional visit to control wound healing. Within three days of arrival, the patients are visited by a specialist and can additionally consult with the department’s physician or the senior physician during their office hours. The rehabilitation plan is - if necessary - adjusted to the course of the rehabilitation measures. If, after surgery, the surgical wound is not completely healed, there will be a daily wound healing control and treatment either by the responsible nurse or the physician of the department. The rehabilitation care team will hold regular weekly meetings to review and discuss the course of the treatment and the advancements the patient has made so far.

At the end of the rehabilitation stay, after a comprehensive final examination (usually on the day before departure), a medical discharge report and a social medical assessment will be written, which contains recommendations for further treatment in the home and. With the patient's consent – this report will be submitted to the treating general practitioners or medical specialist within seven days after the patient has been discharged. Our medical team participates in regular internal and external training and educational events. The work of our medical staff reflects years of experience and expertise as well as the latest scientific findings.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is carried out within the framework of individual treatments or organ-specific group treatments. Several baseline therapeutic principles are used as generally mobilizing and conditioning measures influencing respiration and circulation as well as training of health-conscious behavior in everyday life come. For optimum adjustment of physiotherapy work with patients and their needs, the applications are distributed to more than 25 different indication-or function-related treatment options.

Physical and Balneotherapy

The physical and balneological therapies are individually tailored to the patient's needs and are supportive mainly in the movement-oriented form of rehabilitation.

Nutritional Therapy

As part of the treatment concept, meals for our patients are prepared under the guidance of our nutritionist and are in compliance with the dietary recommendations of the DGE (German Nutrition Society) and the UGB (Association for Independent Health Counseling). In individual meetings the nutritionist discusses measures to prevent malnutrition and to reduce obesity. These measures are implemented through specially designed diets–also as a practical experience for the patient during meals. Individual nutritional problems will also be addressed in comprehensive seminars and classes. Individual nutritional problems of patients will be discussed in elaborate training and support seminars and classes. After an initial training, further training courses take place in small groups, usually directly in the kitchen under guidance of dieticians and dietary trained chefs. To assist in properly implementing the theory in practice, continuing care and monitoring by dieticians takes place at the breakfast buffet, as well as during other meals.

Occupational and Creative Therapy

Our occupational therapy department has among other things a vertical and a floor loom and a bicycle saw. As add-on module for the floor loom a so-called dorsiflection machine is available. These forms of therapies are utilized to improve posture disorders of the spine, the spinal column, in case of imminent movement restrictions or reduced muscle strength.

Additionally, equipment such as rattan and macramé or therapy putty and thermal sand help with limited joint mobility or lack of skill to combat these deficits and to relieve pain. If necessary, patients will be counseled individually about possible occupational therapy and training equipment for their workplace.

In creative therapy, practical skills are being tested or explored and patients are screened for their concentration abilities. Learning new skills often motivate the patient to find a new identity and a modified definition of one's own "self", especially after the experience of a profound change of life as a result of a serious illness or surgery.

"In the workplace occupational therapy stressful situations are simulated and trained at different work places. In this therapy we orientate ourselves on the findings of the evaluation of functional performance by Susan Isernhagen (EFL)."

Social counseling

Regarding social and professional issues patients can daily take advantage of a consultation offered by our certified social workers. As a rule, a certified social worker will accompany the patient even after the termination of the rehabilitation stay. The social worker will provide counseling if impairments exist and those have an impact at work and the workplace or in the home environment. The social worker will also provide counseling in insurance matters and ensure resources of assistance for the patient, such as medication supplies and finding self-help groups in the surroundings of the patient's home.

Psychological Counseling

Is available both at the patient’s own request and at the request of the attending physician. One-on-one consultations or group discussions are conducted by the certified psychologists of the BREISGAU-CLINIC. Primarily there will be one-on-one psychotherapeutic consultations, group discussions, relaxation training in the group (progressive muscle relaxation by Jakobsen, autogenous training) as well as behavioral group treatments. As part of the health training, there are also group discussions addressing special topics.

Nursing Staff

The nursing staff consists of head nurses and certified nursing staff who take care of the patient´s well-being. From dispensing medication to changing wound dressing, the team cares around the clock for the well-being and recovery of the patient. We firmly believe that a comprehensive treatment is the key for a successful rehabilitation. Through regular educational training, our qualified nursing staff is always up to date with the latest developments in patient care.
